Quod Ames (Something You May Love)

Working on a new comic for Manga Ichiba 2026 so I've currently been hard at work doing thumbnails, ref sheets, and planning specs the past month. Sadly there is not much to show for my efforts visually, but I have opened an interest check form here.

The comic so far is called "Quod Ames (Something You May Love)," after a line from Ovid. It's Richard/Philippe centric, and is set vaguely in an undefined late 1170s era.

Summary: (in progress) The crown prince of the Franks gets lost in the woods one day, and is rescued by a friend with questionable history and intentions. Will he accept strange affections or continue to resist them? The answer MAY SURPRISE YOU (or not).

Tags: BL, Knight x Prince, Medieval. It's historical, but meant to be understandable as a standalone story. 18+.

CWs: dubcon, period-typical homophobia, period-typical dubious consent, agegap (unstated ages due to nebulous timeframe). There is no underage sex in this, however there are flashbacks that reference this early dynamic

You can get an idea of what I'm going for with these comics I've done:

I actually did some readings of Ovid, St. Augustine, and some other works that were inspiring to me but I ultimately cut out a lot of "expositiony" stuff so I can Get to the Point. I hope you all can enjoy.

Specs:
  • Aiming for 36 pages + covers ( but may go over the limit...)
  • Black and white interiors
  • HOPING to have Color covers if possible, but will depend on time constraints.)
  • so far planning for half-letter sized (8.5"x5.5"), saddle stapled.
Will be printing physical books as well as digital editions.
  • Pricing for physical is not yet determined, will depend ultimately on length. Hoping to keep it around $15 USD but we shall See.
  • Digital will probably be $5 for initial/early run, will include some bonus content not in print.
  • I would like to host the comic on my site publicly when I am finished with the con + processing sales.

Other info:

  • While the inspiration/premise is directly obvious, this is not set in the Lion in Winter timeline/universe. The sequence of events and relationships doesn't really line up with that; it's meant to fit in more with my overall approach to events in my other comics

For updates, If you're interested in following along have a progress thread on my side acct on bluesky where I just talk about the boring process of writing and planning. I'll probably start an art/preview thread while I'm actually working on comics. Anyways this is probably a lot more info than anyone needs but I thought I'd include it as well.
